Local Files Mac Spotify Cache

The file file extension is associated with the Spotify, an audio, video streaming application for various platforms and on-line service on the Internet. The file file contains data cache stored on local storage of computer created by Spotify app. 1) Remove cache from Spotify official version. The process to empty cache files from Spotify official app on Windows is similar to Mac. For the Spotify cache, go to C: Users.USERNAME. AppData Local Spotify and find the Storage folder, delete it. Or head to C: Users.USERNAME. AppData Roaming Spotify Users username-user and find the local.

Everyone knows that Spotify uses your device's available memory storage for 2 purposes:

1. To store temporary, or snippets of, music for streaming (i.e. as cache). This means that when you press play, you hear the music immediately with few interruptions.

2. To store downloaded music if you listen offline (Premium only). Even though you never told Spotify to download these song, it saves them anyway as your streaming them so that if you ever play that song in the future, it will play them from the cache. This reduces the stress on their servers, meaning they don't have to have as big as a infrastructure, and they make more profit. They encrypt it because they don't want you walking off with the songs.

The local Spotify folder ends up gathering a huge trove of junk data whenever it is used. Users have even reported about the Spotify folder going on to be as voluminous as 10 GB in size, which is quite shocking as it is only there for saving song cache.

Over time, there is no need to keep the whole Spotify Cache files, and your hard drive will be filled up quickly. You can't select the earlier Spotify Cache to delete and only keep the recent ones. What you can do is clear all of them and then build a new one from now on. And your computer will run smoother.

Follow the next guide you will learn how to clear Spotify cache on Windows and Mac.

Delete Spotify Cache and 'Local File' Cache on Windows

Open Windows Explorer and paste the following line to the folder address bar:

C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataLocalSpotifyStorage

Replace 'USERNAME' with your Windows login username. Note that this folder is hidden by default, so you have to use the direct link to reach the cache folder. (Alternatively, you can go into the Settings and turn on 'Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives.')

Delete all the files in this folder.

Open a terminal and type:

sudo rm -fr /Users/USERNAME/Library/Caches/com.spotify.client/Storage/*

Mac

Replace 'USERNAME' with your login username.

Once you have cleared the cache, the next time you run Spotify, it will re-cache the songs to your system. You might want to go to the 'Preferences - Cache' section to change the maximum cache size that it can use.

Spotify is my favorite and most used service I have, even more than TV and streaming services. Everyday I use Spotify whether I am in the car, working in the office, cooking, chores, and anytime I want tunes Spotify is on. No software or service is without its flaws and nuances but one issue got to a point I needed to address it. That issue was with the desktop app from Spotify.

Over time the desktop app became slower and slower, less responsive to the point of taking minutes to load one playlist. Uninstalling completely and reinstalling worked for a short time but eventually the app would degrade to that level of poor performance. That told me it wasn’t my machine but something with the app.

I searched for solutions and if others had the same problem and found may posts that did but no good solutions that worked. Until I came across a lone post with complicated steps. I went through those and those worked well.

The problem comes down to the cache management of the Spotify app. Overtime the cache files grow to a size that passed efficiency to the point of being very large and therefore more difficult the computer to use them without expending more memory and processing which becomes counter-productive. The solution is to clear out the cache files and then set a configuration setting in the Spotify setup files to cap the cache size to not bloat.

This post is to simplify those steps for both MacOS and Windows.
