On the iOS app this is far better, because you can swith to full screen mode to a static view of the front-side album art, song title and artist name. For starters, this would already be a great addition if this feature would be available for the desktop app as well. But there are a lot more opportunities to improve the visual experience. The best workaround I found was to use a 3rd party lock screen, specifically Smart App Lock. It can be configured to replace the default lock screen, and it does not show album art in the background.

The feature where you can hide the controls and just make the progress bar visible seems to be triggered from the UI in Poweramp which has a similar feel to it. The queue button has now been replaced with the Share feature but what's more noticeable is the fact that it seems that Spotify plans to remove the Shuffle and Repeat button from the Now-Playing screen.

While it's appreciated that the team at Spotify are aiming to bring a cleaner look to it, we're pretty sure the full-screen album art would be a thing to dig. Let's wait to see how Spotify plans to make these changes and what they might need to sacrifice in the process. Onwards and upwards!
